John Kennedy's Celtic future becomes clearer as FC Midtyjlland accelerate new manager pursuit

The Celtic number two was on a list of candidates to replace Bo Henriksen but looks set to miss out

Kennedy has been linked with a move to the Danes

Celtic No.2 John Kennedy is poised to miss out on the FC Midtjylland job after the Danish club began talks with Barcelona academy supremo Albert Capellas.

The Hoops coach and former Celtic and Scotland defender was strongly linked with a shock move to take charge of FCM after they sacked previous incumbent Bo Henriksen. But representatives from the Danish club travelled to Spain at the weekend for discussions with former Denmark Under-21s boss Capellas.

The 54-year-old has been an assistant manager at Brondby in Denmark, as well as Borussia Dortmund, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Vitesse Arnhem. He even took charge of Barcelona on an interim basis when the Nou Camp giants axed Ronald Koeman and replaced him with Xavi. Now he will decide whether to accept the offer of FC Midtyjlland, who are currently managed by caretaker boss Henrik Jensen and sit in eighth place in the Danish League.

Previously, Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou pledged he wouldn't stand in Kennedy's way if he was offered the job. The Australian boss said: "He’s no different to anyone else at this football club. If people identify him as someone who can help their organisation, then it’s up to the individuals to make those decisions.

"John is a really important part of what we do here. He’s an important part of my set-up, he leads a lot of the areas with respect to our football, so he’s a valuable asset to this club."
