Newcastle United legend Les Ferdinand hails 'maverick' Allan Saint-Maximin's Man City masterclass
Saint-Maximin produced a magnificent performance against the reigning Premier League champions
Les Ferdinand believes Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin showcased why he is such a hit with supporters with his sensational performance in Newcastle's 3-3 draw against Man City. Saint-Maximin caused havoc down the left and posed countless problems for Kyle Walker. The Frenchman consolidated his impressive display with two assists as he set-up the first two goals for Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson.
Ferdinand, who scored 50 goals in 84 matches across all competitions for the Magpies, described Saint-Maximin as a 'maverick' and believes the performance illustrated why he is so popular in Tyneside.
"They love a maverick and that's what he is," Ferdinand revealed after Newcastle's six-goal thriller. "You don't know what you're going to get. He's effervescent when he's on and before the game I thought this would be a game for him because this is the type of contest he would like to shine in.

"If you're going to give him opportunities and give him room he can hurt you and he showed every reason why he's so popular with the supporters."
Saint-Maximin created the joint-most chances (4) and won the second-most duels (6) in a truly electrifying display. As well as receiving praise from Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, the Frenchman was also complimented by Man City manager Pep Guardiola after the game.
