Dundee ace Shaun Byrne told he is surplus to requirements by Gary Bowyer and could leave before transfer window closes

SHAUN BYRNE has been told he’s surplus to requirements at Dundee - and could be out of Dens before the transfer window closes.

The 29-year-old midfielder has featured six times under new boss Gary Bowyer this season and is just two short of a century of games for the club.

He has also played more than 100 games for both Dunfermline and Livingston and was a regular for the Dark Blues in the Premiership last season.

SunSport understands Bowyer is willing to let Byrne leave after adding former Barrow star Joe Grayson to his midfield options.

Byrne played all four Premier Sports Cup group games as Dundee topped their section with a 100 per-cent record.

He also featured in Championship clashes with Partick and Raith but is now set to leave before the window shuts in eight days time.

"Nothing has materialised and I know Rangers will be hoping for big money and because of his performances in Europe you can understand why.

“But from what I am led to believe I don't think that there has been any offers put on the table for Rangers or they would probably would have accepted the money for him.

"Because this has been ongoing for a number of months now and there has been nobody coming forward with money for Alfredo Morelos hence the reason why he's still there."
