Former Celtic and Scotland hero Griffiths delighted his new fans when he steered a trademark finish high into the net just before half time during the clash against Western Knights.

He was mobbed by his new team-mates as he attempts to kick start his career again on the other side of the world.

The 31-year-old left Scotland last month under a cloud after a horrible fall from grace starting with his Celtic exit last summer.

But he has teamed up with former Raith Rovers and Falkirk striker John Baird at Mandurah City ahead of their two final league games this season.

He hopes that by helping them secure a second placed finish in the State League.

The former Scotland star hopes that he can use the opportunity to impress A-League clubs as he looks to become a permanent fixture down under with Perth Glory touted to have shown an interest in the striker.

Griffiths said: “Australia is somewhere where I want to lay down my roots and continue my footballing journey, I’ve always said that.

“For the last two or three years in Scotland I’ve said that it’s maybe time to expand and explore other avenues.

“Australia is becoming a more attractive option as the league is up and coming.

“More players are coming over to try it out.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”
