Jason Denayer transfer solves two Wolves problems for Bruno Lage
Latest Wolves news from BirminghamLive includes interest in Belgian defender Jason Denayer
Wolverhampton Wanderers have offered Belgian centre-back Jason Denayer the opportunity to return to the Premier League.
Wolves are in the market for a new defender before the transfer window shuts to replace Nottingham Forest-bound Willy Boly. Denayer has emerged as an option for Wolves, who have held talks with the ex-Lyon man’s representatives.
Denayer is a free agent having left French club Lyon at the end of his contract in June. The 27-year-old has previous experience in England with Sunderland having spent five years on Manchester City’s books. Denayer also impressed in Scotland during a loan spell at Celtic in 2014/15.

Valencia and newly promoted Fulham have also been linked with Denayer, who has ambitions of being part of Belgium’s World Cup squad later this year. Denayer has won 35 caps for Belgium since making his international debut in 2015.
Denayer wouldn’t just solve Wolves’ issue at centre-back, the he also has the versatility to operate at full-back too. Bruno Lage only has three senior full-backs available to him in Nelson Semedo, Jonny Castro Otto and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Ideally, Lage would have one more option available to him - but the club’s hierarchy don’t view signing a new full-back as a priority between now and the 11pm deadline on Thursday. The arrival of Denayer - who can play centre-back, right-back and even in defensive midfield - would kill two birds with one stone for Wolves.
Denayer is, however, one of several options being considered by Wolves as they race to get a defender in the building before the deadline. Boly is understood to be close to joining Forest now after he failed to report for Wolves duty on Sunday.
