Aston Villa have signed Leander Dendoncker from Wolves for a fee in the region of £13million. The Belgian becomes Villa’s sixth signing of the summer while, for Wolves, Dendoncker leaves after clocking up 159 appearances at Molineux after first signing on loan back in 2018.

The 27-year-old had just nine months remaining on his Wolves contract and, after falling down the pecking order under Bruno Lage following the £40million arrival of Matheus Nunes, was given the green light to transfer across the West Midlands to link up with Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.

Gerrard, 42, has identified the Belgian international as a player who will give Villa more steel both in midfield and defence given the issues the Villans have knowing only three Premier League clubs - Bournemouth (16), Forest (11) and Leicester (10) - have conceded more goals so far this season (9).
