Glen Kamara STAYS at Rangers as Nice back out of £10million transfer for Ibrox midfielder

GLEN KAMARA will STAY at Rangers after his transfer to OGC Nice fell through.

The Finnish midfielder, who had three years left on his Gers contract, emerged as a late target in this window for the French club.

Nice were preparing to make a Deadline Day swoop for the 26-year-old and were ready to spend £10million on the player.

The Ligue 1 side had already splashed plenty of cash this summer, including £12m on Alexis Beka Beka and hefty wages for Nicolas Pepe on loan and Kamara's ex-teammate Aaron Ramsey, who arrived as a free agent.

Rangers didn't want to lose Kamara but with the Finnish international not a regular starter for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the money could've proved too good to turn down.

Given Alfredo Morelos looks like he'll be staying at Ibrox, it made sense for Rangers to cash in on Kamara.

But the French side backed out of the move on what turned out to be a whirlwind Deadline Day for them.

Early on, Nice's media team appeared to jump the gun with the announcement of Kamara as their newest recruit.

The club website briefly had a player profile for Kamara on it, before it was swiftly deleted.

Later on, the club's pursuit of Bamba Dieng came to a crashing halt when the Marseille forward failed his medical in the final few hours of the window.

The Ligue 1 side had hijacked Leeds United’s move for the Marseille striker at the last minute but their own pursuit of him fell through too.

Ross Barkley has emerged as a possible target for the big-spending Frenchies.

Meanwhile, Rangers star Tom Lawrence is a major doubt for Saturday's Old Firm clash against Celtic.

The Gers midfielder suffered a knee strain in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Ross County and faces a race against time to line up against the Hoops at Parkhead.

Lawrence has scored three times for Gers so far this season and his absence would be a major blow for Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Meanwhile, Nikola Katic has admitted he broke down in tears as he said goodbye to Gers.
