Rangers hero Kris Boyd calls for Allan McGregor to return in goal after Jon McLaughlin horror show against Celtic

KRIS BOYD reckons it's time for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to DROP No.1 goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin after his Parkhead nightmare in an error-strewn performance in the 4-0 Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

The SunSport columnist was left fuming after Rangers succumbed to the heavy defeat at Parkhead - leaving them five points behind league leaders Celtic after six games.

McLaughlin might think he could have done better for the first three goals before passing the ball straight to David Turnbull for Celtic's fourth.

Questions were asked at the beginning of the season as Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst chose between McLaughlin and Rangers hero Allan McGregor as to who'd claim the No.1 spot.

It was McLaughlin got the nod, starting all but one of Rangers' games this season and after a shaky start, it had lead for some to call for McGregor to return.

After the latest shaky performance, a fuming Kris Boyd believes that McLaughlin's time is up and that McGregor should return between the sticks ahead of their crucial Champions League opener against Ajax.

Boyd told Sky Sports: "You need big players, big players who are going to stand up and be characters at times like this and you might need to put Allan McGregor back in goals."

It was a miserable afternoon for McLaughlin and the rest of his teammates as Celtic ran riot against Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.

Strikes from Liel Abada, Jota and David Turnbull saw the Hoops walk over the Ibrox side and Boyd slammed the Gers players for insisting in playing out from the back.

He continued: “If there’s a team to hit it over, it’s Celtic because they’ve got so many on you that high up the park.

“Jon McLaughlin has three or four seconds to think about it and still plays that pass.

"I'd rather Alfredo Morelos lose the ball on the half way line against Carter Vickers than at the edge of my own box.

“The game’s finished I don’t know why you’re still playing out.

“It’s an annihilation - I don’t know why you’re adding to it.”
