Manchester United ace Brandon Williams has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo and named "magician" Juan Mata as the best player he has played with.

The young full-back chose the Spanish playmaker when asked who was his greatest team-mate, telling GOAL: “I’d probably say Juan Mata, because he’s a magician on the ball. He takes control of games in the way he plays. He’s a good guy off the pitch as well - he speaks to us and he helps us.”

Williams played with Mata 27 times after breaking into the United first team in 2019, but he has never played alongside Ronaldo in a competitive match.

The 22-year-old was sent on a season-long loan to Norwich City prior to Ronaldo's Old Trafford return last summer and has yet to be named in a matchday squad by Erik ten Hag this season.

As a result, his United record remains at 50 appearances, with Williams scoring once and adding three assists from left-back. He will not be able to add to his tally of appearances alongside Mata, though, after the veteran midfielder left the club this summer.

Mata was released at the end of last season, bringing to an end his eight-year spell with the Red Devils. Overall, he made 285 appearances for the club, scoring 51 goals and providing 47 assists for his team-mates.

Following a brief spell as a free agent, Mata found a new club earlier this week, joining Turkish side Galatasaray on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

As for Williams, he finds himself behind Luke Shaw and new signing Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order at left-back this season after failing to secure a loan move during the transfer window.

He is also understood to be part of a group of players kicked out of the first-team changing room at the club's Carrington training ground.
