Tom Rogic explains post Celtic career struggles as West Brom recruit opens up on 'time to reflect'
The Australian playmaker has been a free agent since leaving Celtic Park at the end of last season's title-winning campaign.
West Brom recruit Tom Rogic admits he needed "time to reflect" on his career after leaving Celtic at the end of the title-winning Scottish Premiership season.
The Aussie playmaker has been a free agent since pulling the curtain down on a trophy-laden spell in Glasgow's east end after a career spanning almost 10 years with the Hoops. Many expected the 29-year-old midfielder to have a move lined up having impressed under Ange Postecoglou last term, but Rogic remained a free agent as he knocked back interest from Indonesia and the A-League.
Socceroos boss Graham Arnold also warned Rogic that he was risking his spot in Australia's World Cup squad if he remained a free agent in the run up to Qatar 2022. However, the Celtic hero has finally put an end to speculation over his future by penned at one-year-deal at the Hawthorns as he looks to help Steve Bruce's side climb the English Championship table after just one win from their first eight games.
Rogic has admitted he was in no rush to sign for a club after leaving Celtic as he took his time to plot the right move. He added that it was his choice to leave the Scottish champions to find a "change of scenery."
Rogic told the West Brom club website: “I heard about the club’s interest in me about a week ago. I spoke with the manager, who seems like a really good guy, and I spoke with my agent and here we are. I was looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. I didn’t just want to rush into anything.
"It was important for me to take my time and make sure my next club was the right club. I had some time to reflect and I now feel refreshed and re-energised and excited about the future. I’m really looking forward to getting started at Albion. It’s fair to say the team hasn’t got the results the performances have warranted so far this season. I know that the manager and the boys are looking to change that as quickly as possible.”
