Marcus Edwards stunned Tottenham Hotspur in Champions League defeat but they could benefit from huge sell-on clause
Ex-Tottenham forward Marcus Edwards stunned his old club in Sporting Lisbon's 2-0 win in the sides' Champions League tie on Tuesday.
But despite Spurs' academy graduate helping to engineer his former club's first loss this season, they could still benefit from him - all thanks to a healthy sell-on agreement.

Edwards didn't make it on to the scoresheet at the José Alvalade Stadium against the team he started his career with.
However, he influenced the game heavily, showing flecks of the youngster who looked to have bags of potential under former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
But whilst the 23-year-old was on the winning side on Tuesday, Spurs could still benefit from the star who had previously been likened to a young Lionel Messi.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham could collect a healthy 50 per cent sell on fee should Edwards leave Sporting, a deal which had been passed on from his original move to former club Vitoria Guimaraes.
The Enfield-born star's current contract doesn't run out until 2026.
More importantly for Spurs, though, it's understood he has a release clause worth just below £52million.

Therefore should Edwards move elsewhere, Spurs would take a cut of half that fee - just under £26million.
Edwards made his debut for Spurs back in 2016, but then suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of the senior side, leading him to go out on loan to Norwich City and then Excelsior.
However, following the end of the 2018/19 season, he signed permanently for Portuguese club Vitoria de Guimaraes, going on to score 20 goals in 96 appearances for his new club.
Sporting then signed him for almost £9million this January, agreeing to taking on Tottenham's 50 per cent sell-on clause Edward's former club agreed to.
The Primeira Liga outfit opted to take on the sell-on fee deal to avoid risking the move for the frontman. Had they dropped it, though, Spurs would have picked up just £4.5million.
So far the Spurs academy product has scored six times in 23 games for Sporting, and has even been tipped by his manager, Ruben Amorim, to be called up to the England squad.
