Hibs star Aiden McGeady taking SUGAR injections, and he’s as hungry and ANGRY as ever reveals Lee Johnson
HIBS boss Lee Johnson revealed that Aiden McGeady has turned to SUGAR injections to sweeten up his return from injury.
The veteran winger hasn’t played since the Premier Sports Cup defeat to Morton in July.
But Johnson says he’s getting closer to fitness.
He said: “The report we got last Thursday has shown good progression.
“It’s all gym-based so far, Aiden’s not out on the grass yet.
“He’s had three sugar injections which stiffens the ligament and that makes it stronger.

“He’s reacted very well to the injections.
“It will be a three to four week period before we get him training with the first team.
“Aiden’s experienced enough to know his body, and he’ll know if he can come through it.
“What I will say is that he’s as hungry as ever — and as angry!
“He was angry with his form in terms of knowing it wasn’t quite right. He wants to play, and wants to play for Hibs.
“We’ll see if we can get him back flying in four to six weeks.”
Striker Kevin Nisbet is also nearing a return to training after being out since February with a ruptured cruciate.
Johnson added: “He’s been on the grass, but it was all very controlled when he was out banging balls into the net.
“The target is to get Kevin back as quickly as possible but it’s got to be right. We’ve got to give him time and space to come back properly.”
Meanwhile Scotland boss Steve Clarke has leapt to the defence of Hibs defender Ryan Porteous after he was accused of "blatant cheating" by Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin.
Clarke said: “Ryan is fine. I spoke to him and he is comfortable. I think we should protect all the players if we can.
“Once you are out there on the pitch you are there to be judged and some people will judge you the other way.
“I will only judge Ryan by what he does for us, how he trains for us, how he works for us when he gets his chance to play.

“I have found him to be a very enthusiastic, polite young man who comes into the group, trains well, works well and is desperate to play for his country.”
