‘Always a pleasure’: Toby Alderweireld posts Instagram message Tottenham fans will love

Tottenham Hotspur have some new favourites in defence, no more so than Cristian Romero, but none of them possibly match the legacy Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have left behind.

Whilst the duo no longer don Tottenham colours, they are still going strong for their national side and they will be key figures for Belgium ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Alderweireld posted on Instagram, about his long-term centre-back partner, ‘always a pleasure to play with you, my friend’, which Spurs fans will love, as they also expressed in the comments section of his post.

IF TOTTENHAM COULD TURN BACK TIME

Tottenham aren’t suffering from a defensive aspect because Eric Dier has grown under Antonio Conte’s stewardship and he is an England international once again.

Whilst the no-nonsense Romero has a fanbase of his own given his style and the way he conducts himself on the pitch.

But if Spurs fans could turn back time, then there’s no doubt that two players they would bring back would be Alderweireld and Vertonghen.

For many, many years, under Mauricio Pochettino, they were unsung heroes at the back, a mixture of hard-hitting defending, added with composure and elegance.

It has probably been Tottenham’s best centre-back pairing during the Premier League era, as many will question how they never won any silverware.

With Conte now in the dugout, and the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dier and Ben Davies still at the club, those questions are still being asked.

And many feel this is the best chance Spurs will have of ending their trophy drought because, if they don’t do it under Conte, then they are going to really struggle.
