Brian Laudrup in punditry row as Rangers hero pulled from TV after 'naive' Dubai advert ahead of World Cup

The Dane had been lined up as a leading face of the Qatar 2022 coverage by TV 2.

Rangers legend Brian Laudrup has hit back at accusations of greed after pulled from his job as a TV pundit in Denmark after featuring in an advert for Dubai tourism.

Laudrup, who enjoyed a five year stint at Ibrox, was due to be a part of the commentary team for Denmark's TV 2 during the World Cup in Qatar. Denmark's participation in the tournament in November has already been a hot topic with the main opposition political party insisting their team should withdraw from the tournament because of Qatar 's well-publicised controversial treatment of workers who built the stadiums.

The TV company has noted Laudrup's advert for Visit Dubai, where he talks about his country's chances at the World Cup, is an endorsement of the tournament. The broadcaster stated: "Together with Brian Laudrup, we have agreed to stop the collaboration because it is not compatible with the campaign he is participating in right now. We would like to thank Brian for his insight and contribution to the men's national team matches on TV 2."

But Laudrup was quick to defend himself after the incident. The former Rangers star said: "You could say I've become a face for Dubai, but for me it was about football. You are welcome to call me naive and criticise my judgment. But don't call me greedy and immoral, that's crossing the line."
