Germany under-21s used their visit to Sheffield for their fixture against England to pay their respects to the 97 victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

Antonio Di Salvo's side were convincingly defeated on Tuesday evening at Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United, with goals from Folarin Balogun, Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer securing a 3-1 victory for Lee Carsley's Young Lions.

The Germany squad also visited the memorial located outside Hillsborough, the home of Sheffield Wednesday, which honours the memory of the 97 supporters who tragically lost their lives at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the stadium. The German players and staff placed a commemorative Union Jack wreath and a bouquet of flowers as a mark of respect.
