Paul Scholes has sensationally revealed he will never return to management.

The former England and Manchester United star endured a miserable spell in charge of Oldham in 2019, before resigning after just a month in charge. Scholes quit having won just one of his seven games, citing interference from club owner Abdallah Lemsagam for his decision to resign.

The midfield legend, 47, has also had two spells in caretaker charge of Salford City, the club he co-owns with former United team-mates Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville. But Scholes admits the experience at Oldham took control of his life and that he would never put himself in that position again.

Scholes, whose son Aidan suffers from autism, said: "It's hard to describe managing Oldham as a low point. I quite enjoyed it. I loved all the month, I just wanted to give it a go, to see what happened and for the main, I enjoyed it.

"I didn't realise how 24/7 It would be. There was no time to do anything and having kids, Aiden especially, it took attention away from him and it made it difficult.

"You go into bed thinking 'what am I going to do in the morning with training' and then you've got problems all day to deal with. It's your life.

"You've got to be a special kind of person to do it, and for the month that I did it, I enjoyed it, but it took away a lot of the rest of my life, which is why I wouldn't do it again."

Paul Scholes was speaking to former Red Devils team-mate Gary Neville, on The Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet.
