The SFA has charged the Kilmarnock striker Kyle Lafferty over his alleged use of sectarian language while on international duty with Northern Ireland last week.
The striker is now facing a hearing on October 20, with Scottish football’s governing body having recently introduced a minimum ten-game suspension for the use of discriminatory language.
Lafferty was sent home from the international camp after video footage emerged on social media of him allegedly referring to Celtic supporters as a “Fenian bastards”. He is unlikely to feature in this weekend’s Premiership match against Aberdeen as Kilmarnock await the conclusion of their own investigation into the alleged comments.
Derek McInnes, the Kilmarnock manager, said: “As the club previously stated we are conducting our own investigation into the matter and in consultation with the SFA, we are looking to try to get that resolved as quickly as possible.
“You will appreciate that while that investigation is ongoing I can’t say any more than that. It is better in all these types of matters, any discipline matters, to get clarity as soon as possible.
“Equally, it is important that everybody does their due diligence and does their investigation. We started that last week and we just need to wait to see the outcome of it.”
