Dalglish knows it won't be easy for Rangers at Anfield but reckons a strong display from McGregor could go a long way.

Kenny Dalglish reckons Rangers just might have enough about them to turn up a Champions League shocker and nick something at Anfield. Especially if veteran stopper Allan McGregor is on his A-game.

Gio van Bronckhorst's team travel to Merseyside needing to take something to stand any chance of competing in Group A. They lost their first two games to Ajax and Napoli, shipping seven goals without return, and know another defeat at Anfield is likely curtains for any chance of progress in the top tier of European football.

But they face a Liverpool side who have struggled recently with their draw with Brighton at the weekend incredibly the FIFTH time they've dropped points in the Premier League at the seven-game mark. They're struggling to win games and were beaten convincingly against Napoli in their Champions League opener before bouncing back against Ajax before the break.

Liverpool and Celtic hero Dalglish, writing in his Sunday Post column , reckons it's a huge ask for Gers even despite the Reds' struggling form. But he's pinpointed another Euro masterclass from McGregor as the "starting point" if they are to take anything.

He said: "You cannot rule Rangers out completely, that’s for sure. They have had some terrific results in the past few years away from home in Europe.

"The one that sticks out was over in Germany last season against Borussia Dortmund. Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his players produced something very special that night. It will take a performance even more extraordinary to repeat it at Anfield.

"The starting point for that would have to be Allan McGregor having an incredible game. He’s produced breathtaking displays over the years, and he’d need to do it again.

"That’s usually the case when an underdog takes on a heavy favourite. You need your goalie to make four or five top saves, and for the opposition forwards to be a wee bit wasteful in front of goal. It’s then a case of trying to nick something at the other end."
