Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly installed Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim "at the top" of the four-man list to succeed Bruno Lage.

Wolves parted company with the Portuguese on Sunday after 16 months in charge. The decision came after the defeat at West Ham - their fourth of the season.

The result left the team in the bottom three, having won just one league game this season. The search for Lage's successor is now under way, with Amorim apparently emerging as a leading candidate for club chiefs.

Amorim led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in his first year at the club and led them to the last 16 in the Champions League last season. According to The Sun, it would cost Wolves £20million in compensation if they want to land the Portuguese boss at Molineux.

It may prove difficult to prise him away given Sporting are currently competing in the Champions League, having won group games against Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham so far.

It is reported that Amorim tops a shortlist that also includes Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui, former Olympiakos manager Pedro Martins and Valencia's Rino Gattuso. Elsewhere, Sean Dyche, Porto boss Sergio Conceicao and Andre Villas-Boas have also been linked with the job.

In the meantime, however, Wolves confirmed that coaches Steve Davis and James Collins will prepare the team ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next weekend.
