Bruno Lage breaks silence on Wolves sacking and makes emotional pledge

Bruno Lage has released a statement on social media after he was sacked from his position as Wolverhampton Wanderers manager last week.


The Portuguese was relieved of his duties following a slow start to the new Premier League season which saw the Molineux club lose half of their opening eight games and win just once. Lage has since penned an emotional message to the club and its supporters.


He wrote on Instagram : "I am remarkably honoured to have served Wolverhampton F.C. I am indebted to chairman Guo and Jeff for such opportunity. I am also indebted to every one working at the club for making me feel at home.

Julen Lopetegui responds to question about becoming new Wolves manager

Wolverhampton Wanderers are planning to hold further talks with Julen Lopetegui over their managerial vacancy in the coming days.

Lopetegui, who is a client of Jorge Mendes, has already been sounded out about the job and is free to open formal discussions with Wolves after being sacked by Sevilla. The 56-year-old former Spain and Real Madrid manager is Wolves’ top target to replace Bruno Lage.


Wolves won’t make an appointment in time for this weekend’s match with Chelsea, with academy coaches Steve Davis and James Collins set to take the reins. The club hope to appoint a new manager by early next week to begin the build-up to their important match with Nottingham Forest at Molineux.

Julen Lopetegui decision opens door for Wolves as Sevilla release manager statement

Julen Lopetegui - reportedly the "preferred candidate" to succeed Bruno Lage at Wolverhampton Wanderers - has been sacked by Sevilla.


Since Lage's departure, Lopetegui has predominantly featured as as top favourite in the betting odds to take over at Molineux. He was linked with the job back in 2016 but then became the manager of the Spanish national team.

Following Sevilla's 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Lopetegui, who had been in charge since 2019, admitted he would no longer be their coach. "Tomorrow [Thursday], I will not be Sevilla manager," he said.

The wheels have been set in motion for Wolverhampton Wanderers to make Julen Lopetegui their new head coach.

Lopetegui has emerged as the overwhelming favourite to replace Bruno Lage and Sevilla waived their right to compensation by sacking the 56-year-old last night. Wolves now have a free run at the manager Fosun first wanted to bring to Molineux all the way back in 2016.

The experienced Spaniard has exemplary coaching credentials. His CV boasts long periods coaching at Real Madrid and in Spain’s national set-up, as well as two prolonged stints in club management with Porto and Sevilla.

An emotional Julen Lopetegui bid farewell to Sevilla last night following their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Lopetegui knew before the game started that it would be his last and Sevilla duly announced his departure minutes after the final whistle at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli is set to replace Lopetegui as Sevilla boss.


But Lopetegui might not be out of work for long, with Wolverhampton Wanderers interested in appointing him as Bruno Lage’s successor. Lopetegui almost joined Wolves six years ago before performing a U-turn and taking the Spain job.
