Newcastle United are pursuing Vasco de Gama’s highly-rated teenage midfielder Andrey Santos.

The Magpies are looking at young talent from across the globe as they attempt to navigate Financial Fair Play restrictions by signing stars of the future.

They have already bolstered their youth ranks with the likes of Australia forward Garang Kuol, the 18-year-old who will join in January from Central Coast Mariners.

And we understand Santos, 18, is another on their radar. He has scored seven times from 33 appearances for Vasco, who play in Brazil’s second tier.

Former Brazil star Juninho Pernambucano has said that Santos will go on to become a ‘much better’ player than he was, praising his physical and technical superiority.

Santos has been capped at youth level and has also been linked with Barcelona since making his debut last year.
