Mohamed Salah learns Rangers lesson as Jurgen Klopp applauds moment of magic that 'surprised' Allan McGregor

Salah came off the bench to fire a hat-trick after being mostly frustrated in the Anfield meeting between the sides.

Jurgen Klopp reckons Mohamed Salah learned his lessons from a frustrating night against Rangers at Anfield.

Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 win in the first Champions League meeting between the two but it could have been much more were it not for a wonderful Allan McGregor performance. The Reds failed to score from open play despite their distinct dominance with a stunning Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick and a penalty from Salah eventually getting the better of the Ibrox side.

For 45 minutes at Ibrox it looked as if it might be another tough night in front of goal for Klopp 's team. With Salah rested from the starting XI, a Roberto Firmino double eventually turned the tables on Scott Arfield's opener before Darwin Nunez added a third to put the Reds in control. But then off the bench came Salah and within 15 minutes of coming on, the Egyptian had a hat-trick as his team went on to put SEVEN past Rangers at Ibrox.

His first and third goals saw him come in from the right and finish beyond Allan McGregor into the far corner - the kind of trademark finish he's pulled off so many times to rack up more than 150 for Liverpool. But it was his second that caught Klopp's eye, as Salah stopped the ball dead on the edge of the box, used Ben Davies' defensive run to inside McGregor, and clip the ball in at his near post before he could adjust.

Klopp said: "It helps us for sure (his hat-trick). I'm pretty sure he learned from the first game against Rangers.

"The goalie reacted well as he knew pretty well when we finish, but Mo surprised him. First goal was cheeky, second goal was very special, third one brilliant."

Liverpool face Manchester City this weekend as they look to haul in the top teams in the league after a dire start to the Premier League season. And Klopp reckons their 7-1 thrashing of Gers has "changed the mood" in the camp after their defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

"Of course (beating Rangers) changed the mood," he added. "We still have to figure out who is available for the City game and we will make the line-up. We will give it a try with Anfield behind us against the best team in the world."
