Richard Beale has received support from West Brom chief executive Ron Gourlay in the week and a bit that he's been leading the first team, as the club seek a replacement for Steve Bruce.

Albion were beaten 2-0 on Tuesday night by Bristol City, having triumphed over Reading at the weekend by the same score-line, but the bigger picture is that Albion's campaign to date has been far from good enough and they currently hover above the relegation zone.

Indeed they could find themselves back in the bottom three by the time they face Millwall at the New Den at the weekend, depending on how results involving sides below them pan out in the meantime.

Albion insist they won't be rushed in making an appointment, a crucial one in their recent history considering the state the club find themselves in, but the fact remains that the current group of players need steering and a run of form must be found from somewhere as quickly as possible.

Beale is looking after first-team affairs for as long as is necessary and it's looking increasingly likely that he'll be lining up against his former Blues colleague Gary Rowett on the touch-line at Millwall on Saturday.

He reveals that he's had communication with CEO Gourlay throughout the process and he expects to be kept updated on any developments that emerge in the coming days and weeks.

"I've spoke to Ron a few times during my brief tenure in charge of the team," Beale said. "He's been very supportive of what we're doing and he said as and when they're any developments I'll be one of the first people to know.

"A new manager hasn't come in yet but Ron will definitely keep me informed if and when that situation changes."

It's impossible to know what may happen in the immediate future but, as things stand, Beale expects to take charge again at the weekend, when he'll be preparing the players to respond to the demoralising defeat at the hands of Bristol City.

"I've been asked to do the job until the new manager is appointed. A new manager hasn't yet been appointed, if there is an appointment before Saturday then I'll revert back to my old role," Beale added.

"If not, I'll be taking the team and we'll start the preparations now, tomorrow, if we're required to do it."
