Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have hit back at Oldham chairman Frank Rothwell after he claimed he had never heard of the Hollywood duo.

Oldham will travel to the Racecourse Ground on Sunday afternoon to take on their fellow National League side Wrexham in the FA Cup 1st round. Ahead of the clash, a bullish Rothwell claimed he didn't know who Wrexham's famous owners were.

"I don't know who the hell they are," he told ITV. "I know they're film stars and all the girls go 'whoo' but I've never seen anything they've been in," he said.

"These lads have bought a football club for as cheap as they possibly could do so they could tell their friends in Hollywood that they own a club."

Reynolds and McElhenney decided to add some extra spice to what is already set to be a lively tie by responding to the jibe by each posting a video on their own Twitter accounts, in which they satirically profile the life of Rothwell.

"Oldham Athletic's Frank Rothwell says he's never heard of Wrexham's owners," McElhenney begins before Reynolds adds: "Well, we've heard of you Frank," and kicking off a series of highlights of Rothwell's life.

"Born in England in 1950, he grew up to be a 72-year-old man with a hat and glasses," they say. "He founded Manchester Cabins in 1979, he's also the oldest man to row across the Atlantic Ocean. He's got a nice smile. Very nice. Gentle. And he likes to shake hands, looks firm."

They then confuse Rothwell with the Irish Olympic weightlifter of the same name before concluding with an advert for the match, saying: "Either way, we know you Frank and you'll know us tomorrow [Sunday]."

Kick-off between Wrexham and Oldham is at 12:30pm and will be televised on ITV.
