Less than 24 hours after Hasenhuttl watched his side lose 4-1 to Newcastle United, the club announced that the manager was gone. The decision comes after a difficult start to the season in which Saints have picked up just eight points to leave them in the relegation zone with one game until the World Cup break.
The Austrian oversaw Saints for nearly four years racking up a collection of memorable moments - both positively and negatively.
But the collapse to end last season and teh strugges through the early parts of this campaign saw Haasenhuttl depart.
A dramatic day then got even more notable with the news that Saints are closing in on the appointment of Jones from Luton. The Championship side have alraedy given permission for Jones to speak with Saints and if all goes to plan, the 49-year-old will be in charge for this weekend's trip to Liverpool.
