Colak, who has three Croatia caps, hasn't played for his country since 2021 but his electric start to life in Scotland propelled him into boss Zlatko Dalic's thinking.

The 29-year old has fired 14 goals for Rangers since his summer switch from Greek side PAOK, quickly becoming the Light Blues' top man up front.

Colak - who was named the Premiership Player of the Month for October - fired himself into Dalic's plans for Qatar 2022 and was named in last week's 34-man preliminary squad.

But unfortunately for the Gers number 9, he's one of the eight players to miss out after the boss made his final cut.

Scottish football is still well represented, however, with both Old Firm duo Borna Barisic and Josip Juranovic selected.

Gers left-back Barisic and Hoops right-back Juranovic both featured for Croatia at Euro 2020 but this will be the first time either star has played at the World Cup.

They join a host of big names, including legendary Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Ivan Perisic in the final squad for the finals.

Croatia are in Group F of the tournament alongside Belgium, Canada and Morocco.

It's Morocco up first for them, with the clash taking place in Al Khor on 23rd November with an afternoon kick-off.

Croatia will be hoping they can repeat their remarkable run of the last World Cup.

Memorably, they made it all the way to the 2018 final where they gave France a major scare.

They came up just short, however, with Didier Deschamps' men triumphing 4-2 to become world champions for the second time.
