Ravel Morrison has leapt to Jadon Sancho's defence after Ryanair trolled the winger who was left out of England's World Cup squad.

Sancho was one of the big names that didn't make it into Southgate's 26-man collective heading to Qatar. The Manchester United ace, who missed a decisive penalty in England's Euro 2020 final game against Italy won't get the chance to redeem himself following his poor run of form for the Red Devils.

The 22-year-old will have to find other ways to entertain himself while United team-mates Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw fight for the Three Lions in the Middle East this winter. Ryanair cheekily tried to soften the blow by telling the attacker: "We'll still fly you somewhere," with a kiss emoji on Twitter.

It's not the first time Ryanair have took aim at a footballer. They also riled up fans when they poked fun at Robert Lewandowski after Barcelona were dumped out the Champions League by his former Bayern Munich side.

And the airline's ill-timed dig towards Sancho didn't sit well with ex-United starlet Morrison either, who angrily responded: "This ain’t cool!!" Morrison was tweeting from experience following pressure on himself to perform as a youngster.

The forward never quite reached his potential in the game after being tipped for superstardom by Sir Alex Ferguson. The 29-year-old had the world at his feet as a youngster but he left before spells with West Ham, Birmingham and Lazio.

Morrison was back in the headlines when Wayne Rooney gave him a lifeline at Derby County a few seasons ago, and Morrison repaid his ex-United team-mate's loyalty by following him to the MLS when he went to manage DC United this summer.

Sancho has so far failed to live up to his £73million price tag since joining the Red Devils last summer. He's only managed to score eight goals and provide four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions for the club.

United could now turn to his former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Jude Bellingham to rejuvenate their midfield. Reports claim Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is ready to shatter the Premier League transfer record to bring the centre midfielder, who also made the Three Lions squad, to United in 2023.
