Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrice Muamba has been lavishing praise upon Martin Odegaard as he named his Team of the Season so far.
Arsenal players featured heavily in Muamba’s team – to the surprise of absolutely nobody, and understandably, there was room for the Gunners’ captain in the side.
Odegaard has been exceptional this season. Just this past weekend he netted a brace to secure a win for the north London club and he’s always been the man to step up when Arsenal really need him.
Muamba has been more than impressed by the Norwegian, so much so that he’s gone as far as to directly compare him to a true Premier League great – David Silva.

Odegaard compared to Silva
The pundit spoke so highly of Odegaard.
“Odegaard, wow. This guy signed for Real Madrid at a young age and then moved to Arsenal on loan. My word he is a different player. He controls the momentum for Arsenal. He is David Silva. When David Silva was at City he was what he is for Arsenal,” Muamba said.
“He controls the tempo of the game, his vision, he’s one of the best technical players in this league. No doubt about it, you can’t argue with that.
“Odegaard has matured a lot, he’s the captain, he’s a leader, he’s scoring goals and he’s defending. I can see why Arsenal went above and beyond to get this guy. Arteta saw something special in him.”
Great comparison
The David Silva – Martin Odegaard comparison isn’t one we’ve heard all that often before, but when you think about it, it is so apt.
They’re both technically gifted, left-footed playmakers, and it’s no coincidence that the pair arguably played their best football when working under a coaching team that included Mikel Arteta.
Arteta, of course, worked with Silva at Manchester City, and we have to wonder if the Spaniard’s talent has influenced how he’s tried to coach and mould Odegaard.
