Over the next few days we will see list after list of names in connection with the now-vacant Rangers job.

The bookies still have ex-Gers boss Steven Gerrard as the favourite to take over now that Van Bronckhorst has been sacked.

Other names that have been linked to Ibrox include Gerrard's former assistant Michael Beale, veteran Englishman Sean Dyche and Bodo/Glimt's Kjetil Knutsen.

According to the Scottish Daily Express however, ex-Lyon, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Bosz is in the running for consideration.

Dutchman Bosz, whose Lyon side faced Rangers in the Europa League last season, started out in management almost immediately after hanging up his boots as a player, as he took charge of amateur side AGOVV Apeldoorn in the Netherlands.

He won a national amateur title with the club and De Graafschap took a punt on him but they suffered relegation from the Eredivisie and he was sacked after a year.

Bosz was out of football for 12 months before Heracles Almelo gave him a second chance and he rewarded them with promotion to the top flight and was able to keep them in the Eredivisie, navigating his side's way to a 13th-placed finish.

He stepped out of the dugout to become technical director at Feyenoord in 2006, the club where he spent the majority of his playing days.

Coincidentally, while at Feyenoord, Bosz actually signed Van Bronckhorst.

He left in 2009 in protest of the sacking of Gertjan Verbeek and returned to Heracles, this time for a three-year spell.

From there he moved to Vitesse and started to really make a name for himself, as the club briefly challenged at the top of the league and Bosz himself narrowly missed out on manager of the year honours in the 2013-14 season.

Bosz decided to try managing abroad and took up the post with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He went unbeaten in the league but lost out on the title to Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and suffered defeat in the Israel Cup final to Maccabi Haifa.

He returned to his homeland with Ajax and took them to the Europa League Final in 2017.

Bosz then had a short spell in charge of Borussia Dortmund before taking over at Bayer Leverkusen, where he stayed for two-and-a-half years.

He left in March 2021 and joined Lyon in May that same year, but was sacked last month after 59 games in charge.
