Jason Cummings' classy Australia flight gesture as former HIbs man dubbed 'man of the people'

The former Hibs and Celtic forward was flying back with the Australia squad from the World Cup in Qatar

Jason Cummings is often seen as quite an eccentric individual in the world of football, but it has been revealed that he can has a caring and kind side too.

Cummings and the Australian squad returned to huge adoring crowds at Sydney Airport yesterday, following their exploits at the World Cup in Qatar. Graham Arnold's men defied all expectations to reach the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 2006. The Socceroos bounced back from a 4-1 defeat against world champions France in the opening game to claim consecutive victories against Tunisia and Denmark to progress from the group stage as runner's up.

And whilst their World Cup adventure was finally ended by a Lionel Messi inspired Argentina, who sent Australia home with their 2-1 triumph, the Aussie fans packed into Sydney Airport to welcome their heroes home, who more than did themselves justice with their performances in the tournament.

Cummings only featured in one of the Socceroos' four matches, playing 35 minutes as a substitute in the defeat to France. But it has topped off a whirlwind calendar year for the 27-year old, who only declared that he wanted to play at international level for Australia at the start of the year, who he was eligible for through his mother. Cummings swapped Scotland for the Gold Coast last January, joining Central Coast Mariners where he has gone onto score an impressive 13 goals in 27 games.

That impressive goal return earned him a call-cup to Graham Arnold's squad last September, and the former Rangers and Hibs striker grabbed himself a goal from the penalty spot on his debut against local rivals New Zealand in a friendly clash. Cumming was then selected in the final 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, alongside fellow Scot and Hibee teammate Martin Boyle, who unfortunately was later ruled out of the whole tournament with injury.

And whilst the striker is often seen as a bit of a "maverick" in his care-free attitude to his life as a footballer, a journalist who travelled with the Australia squad on their flight back to Sydney, has revealed a classy gesture from the Cummings to his girlfriend.

Journalist James Dodds, a former reporter for talkSPORT and FOX Sports, took to Twitter to reveal that Jason Cummings gave up his business class seat on the flight for his girlfriend Hannah, who is the sister of former Hibs star Josh Doig who signed for Serie A side Hellas Verona last summer.

Dodd tweeted: "Spoke with Jason Cummings last night when they touched down in Sydney. Kept telling me he was knackered after the flight from Qatar. Turns out he swapped places with his partner so she could sit in business class. Man of the People."
