World Cup hero Goncalo Ramos 'wanted' by Bruno Lage in Wolves transfer swoop

Bruno Lage told Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos he wanted him at Wolverhampton Wanderers back in the summer, according to reports.


Ramos, 21, shocked the footballing world on Tuesday evening when he scored a hat-trick in Portugal's round of 16 tie against Switzerland, having been brought into the starting lineup by Fernandos Santos to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.


The Benfica striker announced himself on the international stage with three well taken efforts within the first 70 minutes of the game after being named in the 2022 World Cup squad following his strong club form which has seen him score nine goals in just nine starts so far this season.

He could have turned out in black and gold this season had former Wolves boss Bruno Lage succeeded in his efforts to bring the striker to the Molineux Stadium this summer.


Speaking on Sky Sports back in summer, journalist Pedro Sepulveda revealed details of Wolves' attempted move for the striker. He said: "Bruno Lage already made a call to Goncalo Ramos to find out if he wants to join Wolverhampton. Lage has told Ramos he wants him."
