Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has claimed that the star was "humiliated" by Portugal boss Fernando Santos in an incredible rant.

Santos left Ronaldo out of the starting line-up for his side's World Cup round of 16 tie with Switzerland on Tuesday night, which Portugal went on to win 6-1. The manager had previously criticised the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for his reaction to being taken off in their last match against South Korea.

Ronaldo later came off the bench, the first time he has done so at a major tournament since 2004, whilst his replacement Goncalo Ramos grabbed the first hat-trick of the World Cup.

His sister Elma Aveiro has not held back on social media since the match, though, claiming that Santos has "humiliated" her brother in an Instagram rant.

Writing on her story, she exclaimed: “Yes Ronaldo is not eternal, yes Ronaldo won’t play forever, unfortunately he doesn’t score goals now, he’s old, Portugal doesn’t need Ronaldo.

“We talked about what we heard, all that he did isn’t important, all that he did was forgotten. Now they ask for forgiveness and they don’t need him. I will register that and later we’ll talk.

“Rui Santos, what will he apologise for? Now we we can f*** who we want. It is a shame to humiliate a man who has given so much, but later I will see a lot more.”

Earlier on Tuesday, she had also said: “Today we are all together, if you think it has to be like this I am here to see it.” One of her followers then responded that they "couldn't believe" the team news and that it was a "major injustice".

That prompted Aveiro to add: “I don’t know why and I don’t understand it, but I’m sure we’ll have the answers from God later, he doesn’t fail, let’s see.”

Portugal did not miss Ronaldo, though, romping to a 6-1 victory, with the former Manchester United forward brought on during the second half.

Their win means they will appear in the quarter-finals for the first time since finishing fourth at the 2006 World Cup. Santos' players will face Morocco in the last eight on Saturday, with the winners facing either England or France for a place in the final.
