Sergio Gomez believes Pep Guardiola is such a great manager because he explains exactly where a player needs to be for every scenario.

Gomez arrived at Manchester City in the summer from Anderlecht and, despite initial plans to be immediately sent back out on loan, has remained with the squad this season as left-back cover. The Blues did aim to sign Marc Cucurella following Aleks Zinchenko's departure but were unwilling to meet Brighton's asking price before Chelsea swooped.

The Spaniard has had a tough start to life at the Etihad with some poor performances, the nadir being his silly red card in the goalless Champions League draw with FC Copenhagen. But now Gomez has the opportunity for some one-on-one time with Guardiola and his coaching staff.

"Having Pep as your manager makes things so much easier because he gives a big range of solutions," Gomez told City's in-house media. "He explains why you need be in every specific position in every concrete moment.

"In the end, there are different movements for the team to work out. He’s a great manager, the best manager in the world, and he helps us all to improve as players."

Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson are also in the travelling party in the Middle East, with the rest of the 19-man squad being made up of talented prospects from the Elite Development Squad. The likes of Carlos Borges, Oscar Bobb and Morgan Rodgers will be hoping to impress Guardiola during the week before City return to action against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on December 22.
