He joins Celtic from MLS club CF Montreal, where he played with a certain Victor Wanyama.

Midfielder Wanyama, 31, starred for Celts for two years after joining from Belgian side Beerschot in 2011.

He scored one of the most famous goals in the modern history of the Glasgow club - the first goal against Barcelona in the 2-1 win over the Spanish giants in 2012.

He clearly struck up a rapport with the defender during their time together as teammates for Montreal and as the Canadian discussed his decision to move to Celtic, he referred to Wanyama as "Agent Victor".

Now, it seems that it's Johnston who's playing the role of agent.

Johnston is currently enjoying a few days of sun as he recuperates following Canada's exit from the World Cup.

He posted a picture on Instagram of his holiday spot in Italy, describing it as "paradise".

In response to the his former teammate's caption, Wanyama wrote: "Paradise is where you will be playing" alongside a four-leaf clover emoji.

Johnston replied by saying: "Where 'we' will be playing...". which whipped Celtic fans into a frenzy.

However, the comment was later removed but not before the rumour mill began to swirl.

Johnston also updated the caption to: "So from what I’m being told … this ISN’T paradise??

Wanyama left Celtic in 2013 as he secured a big-money move to Southampton.

The £12.5m fee made him the most lucrative sale in Scottish football history at the time.

The Kenyan spent three years at St Mary's before being bought by Tottenham Hotspur for £11m.

He was brought to White Hart Lane by former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino but as the seasons progressed he fell down the pecking order and despite being regularly linked with Celtic, eventually joined Montreal in 2020, where he would later link up with Johnston.

Meanwhile, Celtic are prepared to allow Yosuke Ideguchi to leave in January.

The former Japan international has struggled to make an impact on the first team since his arrival in Scotland last January, in no small thanks to niggling injury problems.

SunSport understands Postecoglou will let the midfielder return to Japan as he seeks first-team football.
