Rangers exit talk for Glen Kamara cools as Serie A side look to ‘alternative’ transfer targets

GLEN KAMARA'S football future may lie at Ibrox after all, according to a report.

The Finnish international has been a frequent link to the Ibrox exit door - first through impressive displays under Steven Gerrard, then having seemingly fallen out of the first-team picture under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The 26-year-old has been wanted in England and overseas with several Serie A clubs linked over the years.

However suggestions of a move to Salernitana, the latest link, could be cooling.

According to local reports in Tutto Salernitana, the club may now be looking elsewhere with Kamara poised to stick around at Rangers and prove himself under former coach Michael Beale and ex-Arsenal trainer Neil Banfield.

Kamara began his career with the Gunners' Academy before moving to Dundee and eventually on to Rangers in what has seemed a bargain £50,000 deal.

He played some of his best football under Beale and Gerrard and the incoming Ibrox boss has said he will be a big part of his future.

Beale said: “Neil Banfield had him for a number of years through the Arsenal academy and I worked with Glen for three and a half years.

“If we can’t help then I’m not sure anyone can, in a Rangers shirt.

“Glen has got 100 per cent of my trust. He was hugely important in my previous time here and while he’s still young, he’s coming into the prime of his career. He will be a big player for Rangers moving forward."

The Italian website does not rule out a move though but suggests other avenues are being explored - but adds that Rangers are not keen on letting the midfielder go.

The Serie A side already have an ex-Ibrox midfielder in their ranks.

Lassana Koulibaly, a loan signing from Steven Gerrard's early days, has impressed for the Italians and is attracting interest from the English Premier League.

The Mali international was branded "a destroyer" by his old Ibrox boss and his price-tag has been set at £7m according to the Italian media reports.

They claim that Nottingham Forest "like" Coulibaly and are interesting in landing him when the transfer window reopens next month.
