Celtic have been dealt a potential transfer blow with Cho Gue-sung's club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors hoping to keep the striker until the summer.

Gue-sung has attracted interest from the Scottish Premiership champions in recent months and the Hoops are among a number of clubs in the frame to sign the player, who scored twice during the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. The 24-year-old has expressed his desire to play football at the highest level in Europe but sources in South Korea have told our sister website Football Scotland that the K-League giants want to ensure he remains on their books until the end of the season.

It is thought no bids have been received so far however any interested party such as Ange Postecoglou's side could still tempt Gue-sung away from his homeland with a January offer. But Jeonbuk are not prepared to budge unless their valuation of the player is met before the end of his contract.

He recently said: "I haven't heard anything about European clubs. However, as a player, I naturally have a dream to go out on the world stage and face world-class players. Entering the European stage has been a dream since I was young. I want to go to any place where I can improve my skills and grow."
