Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has praised three of the Reds' summer recruits after their strong starts to the season under Erik ten Hag.

Schweinsteiger, who played for the Reds between 2015 and 2017, discussed the recruitment of Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Antony. The trio have all impressed since arriving at Old Trafford, having featured heavily under Ten Hag prior to the break in the domestic campaign.

Martinez arrived at United from Ajax and has made 21 appearances for the Reds so far this season. The Argentine defender, who was named Player of the Month for August, has featured in every single game this term. Meanwhile, Antony - who also signed from the Dutch club - has made 11 appearances and scored three goals in his first three Premier League matches.

Eriksen came to the club on a free transfer after a short spell at Brentford. The Danish midfielder, who had a cardiac arrest during the Euros in 2021, was named Player of the Month for September.

Schweinsteiger has suggested that Martinez's ‘passion’ is one of the things that has endeared him to United supporters so early on in his career at Old Trafford.

"He is South American, he has that passion!" the German told in-house media. "But also, he is a very smart player, otherwise you can’t play that position [centre-back] with that size. "He knows exactly what to do on the field, he likes to play with the ball, and he likes the fans, so I think that he will be one of the big strengths for the season."

The former United star also admitted that he 'loves to watch' players like Eriksen, with the Dane having impressed in the middle of the park alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Schweinsteiger added: "He knows the league, but he knows the game - that is even more important. He has the vision, he has the brain, he knows when to pass the ball in the right moments.

"I really like watching him because his IQ is very high, and I love watching players who are passing the ball in the right moment to give your teammate more time to do something, and he is doing that and it is great to see," he continued.

The German, who won the World Cup in 2014, also insisted that Antony would continue to improve under Ten Hag, stating: "I hope Antony is settling in well and can help the team more."

Schweinsteiger made a total of 35 appearances for the Reds during his time at Old Trafford, registering two goals and three assists.
