‘Great for Chelsea’: Glen Johnson backs Potter to sign speedster Tottenham want

Glen Johnson says Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Denzel Dumfries would be a ‘great’ signing for Graham Potter’s Chelsea.

Antonio Conte might be stacked in that right wing-back department – with three players to choose from – but all are causing him a headache, regardless of what fans think.

Emerson Royal makes everyone nervous with his play, Matt Doherty can’t seem to get ahead of the man that makes everyone nervous, whilst Djed Spence simply isn’t trusted by Conte.

The latter should be handed more minutes, but he’s not, that’s why Spurs are looking at Netherlands and Inter Milan star Dumfries, who shone at the World Cup in Qatar.

But whilst one team in London is looking at him, so is another, as Johnson backed Dumfries to secure a switch to Stamford Bridge, as he told GGrecon.

“He’s a good player that would suit Chelsea,” said Johnson.

“It would be great for Chelsea to have two top players for every position and they’d be signing him to keep Reece James on his toes and they can battle it out to be the club’s first-choice right-back.

“It could be a deal that’s not too expensive as well, and he’s certainly a good player.”

DUMFRIES PREMIER LEAGUE BOUND?

Both Graham Potter and Antonio Conte like to play wing-backs, so Dumfries suits both managers straightaway.

And as he proved at the World Cup, if you allow him to unleash forward, then he can cause all sorts of problems.

The intelligence with which he knows when to attack or when to take a back foot is what will make him a very attractive option for Premier League clubs.

Not forgetting that he has stacks of experience under his belt, but most importantly, other than Reece James, he’s better than everyone else at Chelsea and Spurs on that side.
