Everton Women update
Brian Sorensen has praised the performances of three Everton debutants despite his side's defeat to Durham in the Contintental League Cup.
Everton went into the contest at the Marine Travel Arena knowing even a win would not be enough to see them progress to January's quarter-finals but looking to end the year on a high after their emphatic Women's Super League win against Tottenham in midweek. Sorensen made nine changes from the side that triumphed at Brisbane Road, with academy products Abby Clarke and Annie Wilding included in the starting lineup for the first time.

Gareth Southgate to continue as England boss
Gareth Southgate is set to continue as England manager after taking time to reflect on his role following the quarter final defeat by France in the World Cup.
Southgate has led England to a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final while being narrowly beaten on a penalty shootout by Italy in the final of Euro 2020.
The report comes from the Telegraph, who say Southgate will lead the Three Lions into Euro 2024.
Ben Brereton Diaz
Everton target Ben Brereton Diaz is in action for Blackburn Rovers tonight as they currently lead Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road.
Rovers' star man is out of contract in the summer and can sign a pre-contract in January with Everton reportedly in the pack who are chasing his signature.
Everton end year with defeat
Everton's year ended in defeat as Durham battled to a 1-0 victory in the Continental League Cup on Saturday.
Though a win for either side would not be enough to see them through to January's knock-out stages, Everton boss Brian Sorensen said ahead of the game he was still expecting a fiercely-competitive contest with the Wildcats. With Walton Hall Park deemed unplayable due to a frozen pitch, the Blues instead took to the field at the Marine Travel Arena looking to end the year on a high after their emphatic Women's Super League win against Tottenham in midweek.

Former Everton coach who once stunned Liverpool at Anfield joins new club
Former Everton under-18s assistant manager Phil Jevons has joined Rochdale's first-team coaching staff.
Jevons, who has been working with the Rochdale squad in the last couple of weeks, has joined Jim Bentley’s backroom staff as first-team coach on a part-time basis. Bentley’s coaching staff also includes former Blues forward Nick Chadwick.
A graduate of Everton’s Academy, Jevons made nine senior appearances for the Blues following his debut in March 1999, and represented a number of Football League clubs, including Grimsby Town, Yeovil Town and Bristol City during his playing career.
And it was during his time with Grimsby when he left Anfield stunned.
A League Cup tie between the Reds and the Mariners looked to be heading for penalties before Jevons let fly with a 35-yard winner that flew into Chris Kirkland's net just eight seconds from the end of extra-time to secure his side a memorable 2-1 win.
Following his retirement from playing, Jevons moved into coaching, and after four years as Everton under-16 head coach, he then moved up to become assistant manager to then under-18s boss Paul Tait.
Jevons departed Everton for Sunderland last September, but he left the Stadium of Light during the summer following a backroom staff shake-up by Alex Neil. Since then, the 43-year-old has started his own coaching company in Liverpool.

'Salomon Rondon's blunt contract call could prove to be significant for Everton'
It was confirmed last night that Salomon Rondon has mutually agreed to terminate his contract at Everton.
Connor O'Neill has given his verdict on the exit of the striker.

Latest Everton headlines
We have rounded up the latest Everton headlines as a positive update emerges on Ben Godfrey and Anthony Gordon speaks to the ECHO about his start to the season.

Ben Godfrey hands Frank Lampard major injury boost and makes bold U21 claim
Frank Lampard has been handed a major boost after Ben Godfrey declared he is 'ready to get going again' after a long spell on the sidelines.
Godfrey hasn’t featured for Everton’s first-team since he suffered a broken leg in his side’s 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
The defender was stretchered off the Goodison Park pitch after suffering the fracture in the early stages of his side’s season opener. He sustained the injury while challenging Kai Havertz in front of the Gwladys Street.
Since going under the knife, Godfrey has been working on a rehabilitation programme with Everton's medical team at Finch Farm, and he now appears to be closing in on full fitness after joining in full squad training earlier this week.

Former Everton scout details 'interest' in Kim Min-Jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
A former Everton scout has detailed how Everton were exploring the possibility of signing Napoli stars Kim Min-Jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earlier in their respective careers.
Carlo Jacomuzzi, who had worked with the Toffees in the past, revealed that the club had 'wanted' to sign Min-Jae, while 21-year-old star Kvaratshkelia was also 'evaluated' during his early years. The pair both arrived in Italy over the summer as part of an outstanding summer of recruitment in Naples that also saw Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa signed from Fulham.
Georgian winger Kvaratshkelia already looks set to become one of the most exciting attackers in the world, his eight goals and 10 assists pivotal in helping Luciano Spalletti's side top their Champions League group and lead Serie A with 15 games unbeaten. South Korean centre-back Kim Min-Jae has been equally impressive, catching the eyes of Europe's top clubs in the process.
The breakthrough of the two stars this season may be of particular pain to Everton, who saw apparent interest in both come to nothing. Former Blues Scout Jacomuzzi detailed earlier this week that the club were looking at them.
