Nicolas Raskin puts Rangers on transfer alert as he fumes at Ronny Deila and Standard Liege over 'lack of respect'

The midfielder has been bombed out of the first-team squad after knocking back a new deal.

Raging Nicolas Raskin has lashed out at Standard Liege and boss Ronny Delia after being dumped out of the first-team squad following a new contract rejection.

The Rangers linked midfielder has been forced to train with the kids after knocking back a contract extension and there appears to be no way back for the 21-year-old with the January transfer window fast approaching. Raskin looked to put a fine point on his time at the club as he unleashed on Standard powerbrokers with a pointed comment on social media.

Taking to his Instagram page the Belgium youth international attempted to explain why he had decided his future lies away from Liege, commenting in a now-deleted social media story: "When you lose respect, you need to know when to leave. Very disappointed, but not surprised." This sparked a firm response from from Celtic boss Deila as he insisted the club had handed Raskin a suitable offer.

Asked about his response to the comments by HLN, the Norwegian said: "That he accuses the club of a lack of respect? That is just his opinion. We wanted to build a team around him. I think the club did everything they could to keep him here. I don't know how high the proposal was exactly.

"From what I heard it was significant. But this was not about money, more about making a transfer.”

Following the response from his boss, Raskin attempted to calm the heated situation with a follow-up post to social media. He added: “My impulsive message, born of sadness and disappointment, suggests that I have decided to end my adventure at Standard. That is not correct.

"The dispute with the current management goes beyond just my salary. I respect their decision, but I regret making it a pay issue. That is not the case."

It was widely reported that Rangers were interested in a deadline day move in the summer but it failed to materialise with Gio van Bronckhorst settling for what he had in the middle of the park. Michael Beale could revive their interest next month, however. The Ibrox side, Club Brugge, Reims and Bologna have all been credited with an interest as we approach the winter window in reports in Belgium.
