Matt Le Tissier has launched a scathing attack at fellow ex-footballers Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker in his latest rant.

Former Southampton captain Le Tissier has accused his ex-Sky Sports colleague Carragher of calling him and "spitting bile down the telephone" in an angry exchange a few weeks ago. Mirror Football have contacted Carragher's representatives to verify the claims.

Le Tissier has also launched a stinging attack at Match of the Day host Lineker. He has sarcastically labelled him as "special" and disingenuously claimed he has "never done anything wrong in his life". The two retired stars have previously rowed on social media.

Le Tissier's latest comments came during an appearance on Pub Talk, a YouTube chat show hosted by Alan Brazil and Ray Parlour. On Carragher, Le Tissier ranted: "I don't think I've told anybody this, but I got a phone call about six weeks ago from Jamie Carragher, because I dared to mention that he kept his job after spitting at a child."

Le Tissier was referring to an incident involving Carragher after a game between Manchester United and Liverpool in March 2018, in which he spat at car while being goaded at by a fan. It later emerged that a 14-year-old girl was in the passenger seat.

Carragher apologised for the incident and was suspended by Sky Sports for the rest of the season. He resumed his role as a pundit the following August, two years before Le Tissier was dropped from Sky Sports' flagship football results show Soccer Saturday.

Le Tissier has previously admitted his disappointment at being axed by Sky Sports. Since August 2020, he's made several controversial remarks about the Covid pandemic and Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Many have criticised Le Tissier in response.

On Carragher, Le Tissier added: "He wasn't very happy about that so he rang me up and then spent a good 10 minutes of spitting bile down the telephone at me. He was absolutely fuming.

"He said I'd embarrassed him and his family by bringing it up. At which point I went, 'Jamie, I think the fact that you spat [at the girl] is probably more embarrassing, so you need to own what you did, and if somebody talks about, tough. Because you did it'."

Le Tissier was also happy to answer a question on his Twitter spats with Lineker. One such row unfolded in September 2021, when Le Tissier claimed society's effort to defeat to influenza wasn't as rigorous as the campaign against Covid. Lineker debunked the theory by sarcastically replying: "Yeah Matt, why didn't someone come up with a flu vaccine?"

On his rows with Lineker, Le Tissier said: "Yeah, Gary was one of those blue ticks that I was talking about earlier that like to jump on anything I say. But you know, Gary's a very special human being, he's never done any wrong in his life."

Le Tissier went on to explain: "[Our row was over] opinions, he's on the leftist side of left on the political spectrum, and I'm more in the middle, and maybe veer slightly towards the right, although there's some things on the left that I'd agree with."
