Boris Becker claims 'good friend' Jurgen Klopp was banned from visiting him in jail
Former tennis star Boris Becker has been released from prison after serving eight months of his two-and-a-half year sentence - and revealed all about his experience in a new interview
Boris Becker has claimed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was banned from visiting him in prison by authorities.
The tennis icon was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail in April after being found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act. Yet the 55-year-old served just eight months before being released last week.
And Becker has now broken his silence about his experience in prison, detailing how compatriot and fellow sporting hero Klopp was not allowed to visit him over safety concerns.

He told Sat TV on Tuesday: “We are good friends and I gave his name to the authorities but then they came back and said that he couldn't come as he was too famous and they were concerned for his safety.
“I was allowed two visits a month and I had to give these names to the authorities so they could be checked out but it is a very slow process. The first time Lilian came she said she was shocked at how I looked – although she only told me that later.”
Becker went on to describe his harrowing experience, saying: “Prison is all about survival. This is the detention centre for criminals from London. Murderers, child molesters. There was no mirror. Later I wondered what I looked like.
“I'm also shocked by how I've changed. I made the mistake of only taking black stuff with me. I wanted to look cool, to do a bit of a gangster.”
The three-time Wimbledon winner’s jail time was reduced due to a ‘fast track’ scheme which sees criminals sent back to their native country in order to ease the pressure on Britain’s prison service.
Becker has lived in the UK since 2012 and qualified for automatic deportation due to not having a British citizenship. He will need to serve the rest of his sentence in Germany without jail time, but will not be allowed to return to the UK until the full sentence is carried out.
