Playing in similar positions, he named McGeady as someone he 'always looked up to' as he took inspiration from stars of the then-first team.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international himself started out as a starlet in the Parkhead academy before breaking into the starting XI and debuting under Martin O'Neill in 2004.

But after a substitute appearance against Rangers and a spot on the bench against Livingston at the weekend he could be set to feature on Wednesday night up against his old boyhood side.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Forrest has urged his current Parkhead team mates to take the threat his former hero still poses very seriously.

The wide-man watched McGeady in action for Sunderland last year and reckons he could still cause The Hoops problems when they travel to Easter Road on Wednesday night.

He said: "When I was a young boy coming through here, I always looked up to Aiden.

"I think he’s 36 now but I saw him playing last year at Sunderland and he was still looking sharp, so he’ll definitely be a threat when we play them.

“All the young boys coming through, you always looked to players in your position and I watched him so many times over the years, so it’ll be good to play against him.

"Easter Road’s a good place to play and Hibs is always a difficult game there, so we’ll be looking forward to that when it comes around on Wednesday."
