BRIAN'S BACK

Rangers legend Brian Laudrup lands new role three months on from shock axe and fans are all saying the same thing

RANGERS icon Brian Laudrup has revealed a brand new role for 2023.

The ex-Ibrox winger's new gig comes three months on after he was axed from his Danish TV role in controversial circumstances.

The 53-year old was relieved of his duties by TV 2 ahead of the World Cup.

Laudrup was to have been part of the network's punditry team for Qatar 2022 before he was axed.

That decision came about after Laudrup filmed an advert for Visit Dubai, in which he talked about Denmark's World Cup hopes.

Denmark's participation at the tournament was a hot topic in the country, with calls for them to withdraw over Qatar's treatment of workers.

TV 2 viewed Laudrup's tourism advert as an endorsement of the competition and removed him from his role.

The Gers legend wasn't happy and hit back.

He said: "You could say I've become a face for Dubai, but for me it was about football.

"You are welcome to call me naive and criticise my judgement. But don't call me greedy and immoral, that's crossing the line."

That all went down in September, and three months on, Laudrup has revealed he's taken up a new role.

He'll be back on Danish TV screens - but on a rival network.

Laudrup, who won three league titles with Rangers, is joining Viaplay as one of the faces of their football coverage.

He'll link up with the station in February, with the English Premier League clash between Tottenham and Manchester City on February 5 his first assignment.

Viaplay are of course now active in the UK market too, having taken over what had previously been Premier Sports.

They're also now the main sponsors of the League Cup, which is known known as the 'Viaplay Cup.'

But unfortunately for any hopeful Gers fans, it appears he'll be appearing only on the Danish output, at least for now.

Taking to Instagram to announce his new role, Laudrup said: "Back where it all started!

"I am very much looking forward to returning to Viaplay as a football expert on the Premier League, Champions League & Super League."

Fans flocked to the post to congratulate Laudrup on his new gig and many are delighted to have him back on their screens after his absence.

One said: "Wonderful! You have been missed."

Another added: "Finally back at it!"

A third said: "How cool is this? You were truly missed on screen. Welcome back."

Harking back to Laudrup's interview with then-STV broadcaster Jim White, one cheeky Gers fan also chimed in with: "Why are you so good Brian?"
