Giorgos Giakoumakis offered fresh Celtic exit route as FC Midtjylland plotting 'expensive' swoop for striker

Record Sport revealed in November that the 28-year-old was likely to be heading for the Parkhead exit and the Danes are reportedly set to make a move.

Danish side FC Midtjylland are reportedly set to launch a bid to land Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis this month.

Record Sport exclusively revealed back in November that the 28-year-old Greece international was set for a shock Parkhead exit after talks over a new contract stalled. Japanese outfit Urawa Reds were linked with the frontman earlier this week and now Danish Superliga side Midtjylland are said to be interested.

The Danes - who eliminated Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers last season - are looking for a replacement for star man Evander after the Brazilian joined Portland Timbers last month and, according to Danish outlet BT, have targeted Giakoumakis as the ideal man to fill the void. The report also claims it would be an "expensive" move for the Danes whose previous transfer record stands at £4.5million. Giakoumakis netted 18 times last season and has already found the net eight times this season but hasn’t started a game since the winter break as he plays second fiddle to Kyogo. We also told how he was unhappy that a new deal couldn’t agreed.

The frontman dropped his wage demands significantly to make the move from VVV-Venlo last year but it was on the understanding his terms would be improved if he had a successful first season in Scottish football. Celtic have offered a pay rise but it is still significantly short of where he feels his salary should be.
