Arsenal fans triggered by Oxford supporters' retro 'boring, boring' chant

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal found themselves frustrated by Oxford United's resolute players in the first half of their FA Cup tie and the Us fans also did their bit by winding up the North Londoners' fans

Many Arsenal fans have been left incensed by Oxford United supporters wheeling out the classic 'boring, boring Arsenal' chant.

The Gunners were frustrated by the League One outfit during the first half of their clash in the FA Cup. Mikel Arteta's side have been lethal throughout the whole campaign this season, but Karl Robinson's side proved to be a tough nut to crack.

Predictably, the thousands of Oxford fans who packed out the Kassam Stadium enjoyed a laugh at the Premier League giants' expense. However, many of them struck a particular nerve by bringing back a classic chant dating back to the days of George Graham and his defence-minded side of the early 1990s.

“Oxford United fans have no shame lmao. How can they chant “boring, boring Arsenal” like their football hasn’t led to them being 15th in League One,” one bemused Arsenal fan wrote on social media. “Chants of ‘boring, boring Arsenal’ because we don’t play hoofball. Oxford fans standards for football are in the mud,” added another.

“Come on Arsenal! Hurry up and get a goal and shut these t**** who are singing "Boring Arsenal?" Oxford haven't done nothing they're the boring ones,” fumed an even more upset Arsenal supporter. One Arsenal fan with a long memory also commented “Boring boring Arsenal from the crowd? It is 1992.”

However, not all fans of the North Londoners were left frothing at the mouth and some saw the funny side of it. “A sincere Boring Boring Arsenal chant. What a super little retro club Oxford are,” one Gunner laughed on social media.

“Haven’t heard boring boring Arsenal in a while…that one tickled me,” said another mildly amused Arsenal supporter, before another laughed “these lot are hilarious”.

Very few chances have so far been created at the Kassam Stadium. Arteta has rung the changes in his side, but he has still deployed the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and many other top players.

However, the Gunners will need to find another gear if they are to beat the plucky League One side.
