The television channel decision for Manchester United vs Charlton Athletic has left fans raging as "police visit illegal streamers".

Charlton visit Old Trafford on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of this season's Carabao Cup, but the match will not be broadcast live in the UK. Instead, the all-Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Leicester City has been selected for live coverage by Sky Sports, with fans having to wait for highlights of the other match.

The decision has outraged fans, however, with Charlton chasing a famous upset as the lowest-ranked and only non-Premier League side left in the competition.

One enraged supporter tweeted: “Oh by the way, @Carabao_Cup @SkySports @btsport @PrimeVideo plz tweet back how I can *legally* watch the Man Utd vs Charlton League Cup qf? Happy to pay. Also the last Man Utd #epl game, what channel was that on @premierleague?”

Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that police are set to visit 1,000 homes as they crackdown on illegal Premier League streaming as part of an ongoing investigation.

Another fan added: “Why on earth has @ManUtd vs @CAFCofficial in the @Carabao_Cup quarter-finals not been selected for TV? Absolute joke that an all-Premier League tie like Newcastle v Leicester has been chosen instead. Pretty sure most would rather watch a potential 'cupset'. Poor from @SkySports.”

A third wrote: “Still not on TV over here, not even going to watch the highlights as sponsors care nothing for football as if it was the same game in the FA Cup it would most likely have been broadcast.”

One more commented: “Example, Charlton play Man Utd in the League Cup quarter-final and it’s not even on TV.” Another also said: “For once, ridiculous that Man Utd's game (vs Charlton) isn't being shown on TV. Instead, they've chosen Newcastle vs Leicester. Here's a novel idea @SkySports, why not show both!”

Finally, another called for change as they tweeted: “Someone should tell @Carabao_Cup who are letting the TV channels show all Premier League games and not @CAFCofficial vs @ManUtd #cafc #mufc.”

The winner of the clash between United and Charlton will book their place in the draw for the semi-finals, which will take place on Wednesday night.

They will be joined by the winners of Tuesday's other match, as well as the victors from Nottingham Forest vs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton vs Manchester City, which is being shown live on Sky Sports.
