Hibs reveal MAJOR Ryan Porteous transfer update as club announces new role amid major restructure

HIBS have revealed plans to appoint a director of football amid an ongoing restructure - while also providing a major transfer update on Ryan Porteous.

In a frank assessment of the current situation, Hibees chief executive Ben Kensell admitted "we haven't been good enough on the pitch and we know that."

Just who will be taking up the newly created role at Easter Road remains to be seen, but Kensell has stated a desire to fill the vacancy with an "experienced candidate."

The director of football position is part of an ongoing restructure at Hibs, and they'll be working alongside CEO Kensell and manager Lee Johnson.

It's been a somewhat inconsistent season for the club who are currently 7th in the table, having won eight of 21 games in the Premiership this campaign.

Kensell has revealed that a review of the situation began before the World Cup, taking into account previous transfer windows.

The end result is the creation of the director of football job.

Describing it as a "big step" for the club, Kensell described exactly what they're looking for.

He told the Hibs website: "We’re looking for an experienced head, someone to take charge and lead on a medium and long-term strategy.

"They will work with the Academy and all areas at HTC and will be the glue and the strategic lead in those areas. I would like them to have experience in Scottish football and an understanding of how we can be better in the areas we need to be.

"What I’d expect from this individual is someone that comes with Scottish experience, that has football knowledge, contacts in the game and someone that’ll come in to make us better. We want someone that’ll put processes in place that ensure we correct some of the things we got wrong and can move us forward."

As well as the restructure announcement, Kensell also provided a major update on Ryan Porteous' future.

He admitted that the 23-year old IS likely to depart this transfer window.

We already knew the Scotland star was on his way out of the club at the end of the season after a new contract could not be agreed.

With the risk of losing their star man for nothing at the end of the season, it now looks like the Hibees will cash in on him this transfer window.

Kensell said: "Firstly, we have to say he’s been a fantastic servant for the club, and we’ve had nothing but positive conversations throughout.

"Ryan is likely to leave in this window.

"There are several options for him to choose from and we’re looking to strike the best deal possible for the Club, whilst also keeping an eye on the best possible deal for Ryan.
