Ex-Rangers star Maurice Ross in bizarre tiff with Dalbeattie Star as club takes aim over pitch inspection dispute

FORMER Rangers defender Maurice Ross has found himself embroiled in a bizarre spat with Lowland League club Dalbeattie Star.

Ross is now manager of fellow Lowland League outfit Cowdenbeath and he's found himself in a bot of a back and forth with his side's league rivals in recent days!

It all began on Saturday, when Dalbeattie were due to host Cowdenbeath at their Islecroft home.

However, heavy rain meant a pitch inspection was scheduled for the morning of the game.

The surface was deemed unplayable, and the decision was made to axe the game just after 9am.

Moments after the announcement, Ross posted on Twitter: "Shambles!! If that's a game off scenario then two thirds of the year is "game off" weather!"

Dalbeattie didn't issue any response immediately - but it seems they've been waiting for the perfect moment!

And they duly unleashed their response in rather amusing fashion as news of another pitch inspection unfolded.

Somewhat bizarrely, it was an inspection involving NEITHER Ross' Cowdenbeath or Dalbeattie themselves.

Instead, it centred around the Rangers B team announcing a pitch inspection ahead of their clash with Civil Service Strollers.

Replying to Rangers' tweet announcing an afternoon pitch inspection, the Dalbeattie social media team picked their moment to strike back at Ross - and clearly still had the former Scotland defender's words in mind from the weekend!

Hitting back and tagging Ross in the post, Dalbeattie said: "If calling the game off, be sure to get permission from Maurice Ross first, because he is an expert on these things without actually seeing the pitch.

"We have had a 40-year record rainfall in the past week, yet from more than 100 miles away he thought our pitch was playable."

Appearing to see the funny side of the situation, Ross replied by sending Dalbeattie an emoji blowing a kiss.

The clash between the young Gers and Civil Service Strollers ended up receiving a more positive outcome than Saturday's clash that began the spat.

The afternoon inspection of the pitch at the Dumbarton Stadium passed and it's game on.
