Man City fans want Scott Carson in goal after Stefan Ortega clanger vs Southampton

Manchester City fans have joked they'd rather Scott Carson between the sticks than calamity keeper Stefan Ortega - who was dinked by Moussa Djenepo.

Ortega started ahead of Ederson for City, as they looked to progress from another Carabao Cup quarter-final. However, Southampton had other ideas and Sekou Mara sent the Saints ahead, before Djenepo caught Ortega off his line with an expertly taken chip.

Ortega was stranded in no man's land as Djenepo, who was only just outside of the area, lifted the ball over the German. And City fans have joked they want Carson on the pitch instead of Ortega.

One fan fumed: "If Ortega is gonna stand there he might as well be in the f***ing stands."

"Carson honestly is miles better than Ortega, he should have started," a second joked on social media. While a third added: "So s***. Why is Ortega coming out like that? FFS just hold your position and it's an easy save!"

And a fourth tweeted: "Reminder we sold three players to rival clubs in the summer. We have clearly worsened since doing so and bought f***ing Sergio Gomez and Ortega. It looks like sabotage!"

City signed Ortega over the summer from ex-Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld. The German was Bielefeld's No.1 for the campaign, but he was hapless to stop the side from finishing second bottom.
